About · Company

Intelligence at the load. So the grid can decarbonise without anyone noticing.

Forecasts of a variable grid translated into operating decisions for electrical loads, automatically. From a single charge point to portfolios of distributed assets.

01 · Origin

A short history.

eForecast was founded in 2022 to develop software systems for the optimisation of electrical power consumption in response to electricity system carbon intensity and renewable energy availability. The initial work focused on forecasting; that work was recognised as the Irish national winner of the ClimateLaunchpad climate-tech accelerator in 2022.

In the years that followed, carbon intensity forecasting became broadly available infrastructure. The company's work matured with it, shifting downstream from producing forecasts to acting on them.

That is the question we have been working on since. The work is now in adaptive control: systems that take a forecast of a variable, decarbonising grid and translate it into the operating behaviour of individual electrical loads, and of portfolios of them.

02 · Mission

To support the transition to a low-carbon energy system by enabling intelligent, automated adaptation of electrical consumption.

The technology is built to let electrical loads (chargers, heat pumps, batteries, industrial process equipment) adjust their operation to align with cleaner electricity supply, automatically and without human intervention in the loop. The control runs against real-time forecasts of grid conditions, and scales from single sites to portfolios.

03 · What we work on

A short list of long problems.

Adaptive control is a broad surface area. The active work clusters around problems that surface again and again as electricity systems decarbonise.

  • 01

    Grid stability under high renewables.

Frequency and voltage support from the demand side, as inertia falls and inverter-based generation rises.

  • 02

    Control under forecast uncertainty.

Policies that remain correct as the forecast updates, that hedge against tail outcomes, and that recover when the forecast is wrong.

  • 03

    Intelligent battery operation.

When and how to charge, when to dispatch, how to age the asset. Adaptive control across multiple objectives, across heterogeneous storage.

  • 04

    Control across many sites.

Coordinating heterogeneous portfolios of loads and distributed energy resources, where most of the value (and most of the difficulty) sits.

The list isn't exhaustive. Adaptive control applies wherever a load can shift, defer, or modulate.

04 · Intellectual property

Active across the energy ecosystem.

eForecast holds multiple patent-pending positions across the broader energy ecosystem: in adaptive control, in the use of forecasts under uncertainty, and in the orchestration of distributed loads and storage.
